Thomas A. Powers,
Ph.D. is a patent agent and researcher
in the chemical and biotechnology
practice group. Dr. Powers focuses
on preparation and prosecution of
U.S. and PCT patent applications in
a variety of fields, including chemistry,
biotechnology, the pharmaceutical
arts the pharmaceutical arts, and
semiconductor chip fabrication and
packaging.
Dr. Powers graduated
from Wesleyan University in Middletown,
Connecticut where he received a Bachelor
of Science in Chemistry. During his
undergraduate studies, he conducted
research in organic electrochemistry
and molecular modeling under the supervision
of Dr. Albert J. Fry. Topics of particular
interest included the electrochemical
reduction of nonbenzenoid aromatic
hydrocarbons and benzylic halides.
Dr. Powers also graduated from The
University of North Carolina in Chapel
Hill, North Carolina where he received
a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry with a
concentration on NMR spectroscopy
of organic compounds under the supervision
of Dr. Slayton A. Evans, Jr. His dissertation
was directed toward oxygen-17 NMR
spectroscopy of sulfones and phosphoranes.
